According to Nielsen research, during the week from February 24 to March 1 (exactly a few days after the beginning of the epidemic in Italy) purchasing behaviours have suddenly changed. First of all, the 12.2% surge in sales (compared to the previous year) was significant in the large-scale retail trade, distributed as follows: Southern Italy +15.8%, Central and North-Eastern Italy +12.8%, North-Western Italy +9.9%.
Even more surprising was the spike in the online purchase of consumer goods: +81% compared to the same period last year. Certainly, a partial figure related to the Coronavirus crisis effect, which, however, adds on top of the more consolidated one of 2019, which recorded a +15% surge in Italy compared to 2018. The research was conducted by the B2C E-commerce Observatory, promoted by the School of Management of the Polytechnic University of Milan, in collaboration with Netcomm, and it recorded an overall figure of over 31 and a half billion Euro. The growth in the food sector is also remarkable, with a rise of 40%. We do not know how long this emergency will last, which severely hinders people's movements and social contacts because of the fear of infection. We all hope that by the next spring the epidemic will step back and completely disappear and that economic aid to companies, which the Italian government and the European Union will inevitably have to provide, will favour economic recovery. Many analysts, however, are certain that our way of life will undergo considerable changes which will affect purchasing behaviours. For some time now, businesses have been called to rethink their sales strategy and open up to e-commerce.
“Our company immediately became aware of the ongoing situation and took steps to create an e-commerce platform, ONLINE SINCE THURSDAY 16 APRIL, designed and built to meet the numerous order requests that come in daily through our communication channels. At the same time, we aim to provide our distributors scattered throughout the national territory with a modern, innovative, straightforward tool to increase sales exponentially".
You can now easily order from home with a computer, smartphone or tablet in three quick steps:
Create your order: Enter the required geographical data, select your nearest dealer and choose the products you want to order.
Send your order: Considering the minimum purchase order required by the selected dealer, add the products to your shopping cart and submit your order.
Delivery and payment: After sending the order, the dealer will contact you as soon as possible to agree upon the delivery and payment methods.
GALLEA, Marketing Director of Calizzano SRL, adds: “We were the first ones in Italy (among the bottled water companies) to create a real e-commerce platform for home delivery. We strongly believe in this project, we believe in glass bottles and the values of environmental sustainability, we believe in home delivery and, above all, we believe in our customers, loyal to the Calizzano Brand”.
