Capitol Rosat is a pale pink rosé with a temptingly fruity aromatic character and made from a careful blend of Tempranillo and Merlot. A brief but intense maceration of the must with the grape skins is followed by controlled fermentation at 17ºC. Strawberry and raspberry notes on the nose. Intense palate, flavourful with a long finish. Perfect harmony of colour, aromas, and taste. Capitol Rosat is made at the Padró family winery just south of Barcelona, where over five generations the family have distilled spirits, made wines (including mistelas and other fortified wines) and become masters of vermouth. On the wine side, the family now specialises in making light, fruity Mediterranean-style wines under different brands, each one representing something of who the family are. The family vineyards are located within the Tarragona Denominación de Orígen, the oldest D.O. in Catalonia, established originally to protect the delicate liqueur wines for which the region was famous – the Tarragona Clásicos. Due to its strategic location on the Mediterranean, the city of Tarraco, today’s Tarragona, was one of the most important cities in the Roman Empire. It was also a main centre for wine production at the time and wines from Tarraco were highly prized and exported all around the Empire, even to Rome itself. The excellent quality of Tarragona’s wine has been maintained to this day through careful attention to the vines and general good practice. Our Capitol brand is a tribute to those wines produced in our area in Roman times.
